The city's architectural heritage is anchored by the Baroque Maribor Castle and the 16th-century Town Hall on Main Square. Religious landmarks range from the Gothic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist to the Franciscan Basilica and one of Europe’s oldest preserved synagogues.
