Historic Churches of Saaremaa

Saaremaa's religious landscape is defined by massive 13th-century stone fort-churches and colorful 19th-century Orthodox sanctuaries. This collection includes Valjala, the oldest stone church in Estonia, and Karja, famous for its unique pagan-influenced stone carvings.
