Religious Heritage

Barichara’s religious landscape is defined by 18th and 19th-century colonial architecture, primarily constructed from the region’s characteristic ochre-colored stone. This collection includes the central cathedral, notable for its ten monolithic columns, and smaller hilltop chapels like Santa Bárbara. The selection extends to the neighboring historic villages of Guane and Cabrera, showcasing preserved tapia pisada structures and religious art that reflect the spiritual and architectural history of the Santander department.

Catedral de la inmaculada concepción

18th-century sandstone cathedral featuring ten monolithic columns and an altar covered in gold leaf. Its facade is built from local ochre stone that changes color with the sunlight.

Capilla de Santa Bárbara

18th-century stone chapel located on a hilltop. It features a simple colonial facade and a large stone cross, overlooking the Suarez River canyon.

Capilla de Jesús

Small colonial chapel situated adjacent to the town's historic cemetery, featuring traditional stone masonry.

Santa Lucía de Guane
