Natural Wetlands

Gotland’s landscape is defined by its "myrar" (fens) and "träsk" (shallow lakes), many of which are protected nature reserves. This selection includes Paviken, a former Viking Age harbor turned bird sanctuary, and the unique flooded limestone quarry at Bläse. These sites support rare orchids and provide critical resting grounds for migratory birds. From the peat bogs of Fårö in the north to the southern marshes of Sundre, these wetlands showcase the island's diverse aquatic ecosystems and limestone-influenced flora.
