Kosovo’s strategic landscape is defined by medieval fortifications that served as vital military and administrative centers. This collection features hilltop strongholds like the Prizren Fortress, which contains Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman layers, and the Zvečan Fortress, situated on an extinct volcanic cone. These sites, including the medieval mining center of Kalaja e Artanës and the protective walls of Dusan Fortress, showcase the region’s architectural evolution under various empires. Many locations provide panoramic views of the Prizren River valley and the Sharr Mountains.
