Historic Churches and Religious Sites

Mérida's religious landscape is anchored by the 16th-century San Ildefonso Cathedral, one of the oldest in the Americas, constructed using stones from the Mayan temple of T'ho. Beyond the central plaza, the city features diverse architecture ranging from the 18th-century neoclassical Iglesia de San Cristóbal to modern neighborhood parishes.
