Parga Unmissables

Parga’s landscape is defined by its strategic fortifications and mythological significance. This collection includes the 11th-century Venetian Castle and Ali Pasha’s fortress in Anthousa, alongside the ancient Nekromanteion, once believed to be the gateway to the underworld. Natural sites range from the cold springs of the Acheron River to the sheltered bays of Valtos and Lichnos. Cultural heritage is preserved at the Paragaea olive oil museum, housed in a restored 19th-century factory.

Venetian castle

Rebuilt by the Venetians in the 16th century, this hilltop fortress features vaulted corridors, stone bastions, and historical emblems of the Lion of Saint Mark.

Phrourio tou nesiou tes Panagias

A small fortification located on the islet opposite the harbor, featuring ruins of buildings and a gate constructed during the French occupation.

Acheron River - Acheron Springs

A site of mythological importance featuring cold, crystal-clear springs and shallow riverbeds suitable for hiking through the rocky gorge.

Paragaea - Old Olive Oil Factory

A museum located in a restored 19th-century mechanized factory offering guided tours on traditional olive oil production and tasting sessions.

Kastro Anthousas

Built by Ali Pasha in 1814 to dominate the region, this well-preserved fortress offers panoramic views and houses a collection of historical photographs.

Valtos Beach

A large crescent-shaped bay west of the Venetian Castle featuring a mix of sand and pebbles with facilities for water sports.

Lichnos Beach

A deep bay three kilometers from Parga, known for its coarse sand, clear waters, and the nearby sea cave of Aphrodite.

Archaeological remains of an ancient fortified city that served as the capital of the Cassopeans, situated on a hill overlooking the Acheron valley.

A large maritime monument situated on the harbor front representing Parga's long-standing naval and trade history.

A small, sheltered pebbly beach located behind the main town beach, framed by high rocks and accessible on foot from the town center.
