Castles and Manor Houses

Småland’s architectural heritage spans from the medieval Kalmar Castle, a key defensive fortress on the Baltic coast, to the 17th-century wooden manor of Gripenberg. The region features significant ruins like Brahehus and Visingsborg, which overlook Lake Vättern and recall the power of the Brahe family during the Swedish Empire. Other sites include the late 19th-century Teleborg’s Castle and the historic manor houses of Hörle and Bergkvara, reflecting the evolution of Swedish noble residences over several centuries.
