San Vito di Cadore’s religious landscape centers on the 15th-century Chiesa della Madonna della Difesa, renowned for its vivid frescoes depicting historical battles. The collection includes the parish church of San Vito, Modesto, and Crescenzia, which houses works by Francesco Vecellio, and the smaller plague chapel of Santi Rocco e Sebastiano in Serdes. These sites, along with traditional alpine votive shrines, reflect the deep-seated spiritual traditions and history of the Boite Valley.

Chiesa della Madonna della Difesa

Built in 1475 to fulfill a vow, this church features a significant 15th-century fresco cycle depicting the battle between the local Cadore people and the Imperial troops of Sigismund of Luxembourg.

San Vito Modesto e Crescenzia

Reconstructed in 1750 by architect Domenico Schiavi, this parish church contains an important 16th-century altarpiece of the Madonna and Saints painted by Francesco Vecellio, the brother of Titian.

Santi Rocco e Sebastiano

A 15th-century chapel located in the hamlet of Serdes, historically dedicated to the protector saints invoked by the community during outbreaks of the plague.
