Alpine Hut Escapes

This selection of high-altitude lodges across Tyrol provides essential mountain shelter and regional gastronomy. Situated in major massifs including the Venediger, Glockner, and Silvretta groups, these huts range from historic 19th-century stone structures to modern facilities equipped with Wi-Fi and digital payment systems. Many serve as primary bases for summits like the Großvenediger and Großglockner, offering traditional Tyrolean dishes and overnight accommodation between 2,100 and 2,650 meters above sea level.

Johannishütte

Located in the Venediger Group at 2,121 meters, this Sektion Oberland hut serves as a base for climbing the Großvenediger. It features regional cuisine, showers, and Wi-Fi.

Barmer Hütte

A high-altitude mountain lodge at 2,610 meters in the Rieserferner Group, managed by the Wuppertal section of the German Alpine Club.

Padasterjochhaus

Built in 1907 in the Stubai Alps, this Naturfreunde hut sits at 2,232 meters and features a traditional wooden dining room and regional restaurant service.

Salmhütte

Situated at 2,644 meters in the Glockner Group, this historic shelter was founded in 1800 and belongs to the Vienna section of the Austrian Alpine Club.

Jamtalhütte

Located at 2,165 meters in the Silvretta Alps, this large lodge serves as a center for ice climbing and high-altitude training.

Hochjoch-Hospiz

An Ötztal Alps shelter at 2,413 meters managed by the Berlin section of the DAV. It offers Wi-Fi and accepts major credit cards and Maestro.

Edmund-Graf-Hütte

Resting at 2,375 meters in the Verwall Group, this lodge serves regional food and provides the primary access route to the Hoher Riffler.
