Udaipur Essentials

Udaipur, the historic capital of the Mewar Kingdom, is defined by its sophisticated lake system and Rajput architecture. The city features the 16th-century City Palace complex, renowned for its peacock mosaics and mirror work. Key sites include the Indo-Aryan Jagdish Temple, the island palace of Jag Mandir, and the 14th-century Lake Pichola. Cultural heritage is preserved at the Shilpgram arts complex and Bagore-ki-Haveli, while the hilltop Monsoon Palace provides views over the Aravalli Range and surrounding reservoirs.

Lake Pichola

An artificial freshwater lake created in 1362, surrounded by palaces, temples, and marble ghats. It contains four major islands, including Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir, and was originally constructed to provide irrigation and water for the nearby Picholi village.

Sajjan Garh (Monsoon Palace)

A 19th-century hilltop palatial residence built by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1884. Constructed with white marble, the palace overlooks Lake Pichola and was originally intended to serve as an astronomical center and a vantage point for tracking monsoon clouds.
