Vayots Dzor Province: Essential Treasures
Vayots Dzor Province is defined by dramatic red rock gorges and a winemaking tradition dating back over 6,000 years. The region features the 13th-century Noravank monastery, the medieval Smbataberd fortress, and the Areni-1 cave, site of the world's oldest known winery. Beyond its archaeological significance, the province contains the spa town of Jermuk with its 70-meter waterfall and unique 14th-century churches like Zorats, designed with an outdoor altar for soldiers on horseback.
