Vientiane's religious landscape is anchored by the 16th-century Pha That Luang, a gold-covered stupa serving as the national symbol of Laos. The city's spiritual heritage is preserved at Wat Si Saket, the oldest original temple to survive the Siamese invasion of 1828, housing over 6,800 Buddha images. From the local legend of the city pillar at Wat Si Muang to the intricate wood carvings of Inpeng Temple and the remote forest ruins of Wat Dane Soung, these sites showcase traditional Lao and Siamese architectural influences.
