Villa de Leyva’s landscape preserves a deep history ranging from the Cretaceous period to Muisca civilization. This selection features Museo El Fósil, home to a nearly complete 120-million-year-old Pliosaur fossil discovered in situ, and the Sol Muisca museum which explores indigenous astronomical knowledge. The list also includes the historic Molino Primavera and high-altitude hiking destinations like Cerro San Marcos and Alto Chuscal, offering vantage points over the arid valley and surrounding Andean peaks.

Museo El Fósil

Built around a 120-million-year-old Kronosaurus boyacensis fossil discovered in 1977. The specimen remains in its original find location, surrounded by a collection of smaller marine fossils from the Cretaceous period.

Sol Muisca

Dedicated to the archaeological and astronomical heritage of the Muisca people. It features exhibits on indigenous cosmology, solar calendars, and the historical significance of the nearby Moniquirá valley sites.

Primavera mill

A preserved colonial-style flour mill reflecting the region's agricultural history. The site showcases traditional milling machinery and architecture characteristic of the Boyacá department’s rural heritage.

Cerro San Marcos

A prominent peak overlooking the valley of Villa de Leyva. The ascent provides views of the town’s grid layout and the contrasting desert-like terrain of the surrounding area.

Alto Chuscal

A high-altitude mountain pass and viewpoint located within the eastern cordillera. It serves as a landmark for hikers exploring the rugged landscapes and paramo ecosystems north of the town.
