Mount Pico
Mount Pico is a currently dormant stratovolcano located on Pico Island, in the mid-Atlantic archipelago of the Azores.
Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro
Located on Flores Island, this site features a wall of numerous waterfalls cascading down a lush green cliff into a serene lake. It is part of the Morro Alto Nature Reserve.
Caldeira Velha
A geothermal site on São Miguel featuring iron-rich waterfalls and thermal pools surrounded by tree ferns. It includes an environmental interpretation center focused on the volcanic origins of the Fogo Massif.
Poça da Dona Beija
A complex of five thermal pools in Furnas fed by iron-rich hot springs with temperatures averaging 39°C. The site is illuminated at night and surrounded by tropical vegetation.
Ponta da Ferraria
A unique coastal site where a geothermal spring flows into a natural ocean tide pool, heating the seawater. The area features basaltic rock formations and a nearby lighthouse.
Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões
A protected park in Nordeste featuring restored watermills, a large waterfall, and landscaped gardens. It serves as an example of traditional hydraulic systems and features endemic Macaronesian flora.
Lagoa do Congro
A secluded crater lake on São Miguel hidden within a deep, lush depression. It is known for its intense green color and is surrounded by a dense forest of endemic vegetation.
Furna do Enxofre
A massive volcanic cave on Graciosa Island featuring a subterranean lake and a vaulted ceiling. Access is via a 183-step spiral staircase built inside a masonry tower.
Lagoa do Capitão
The highest lake on Pico Island, situated at 800 meters. It offers clear views of the Mount Pico volcano and is surrounded by endemic Macaronesian flora and peat bogs.
Bocas de Fogo
Bocas de Fogo is a volcano near the community of Urzelina, Velas municipality, São Jorge Island, Azores.
Salto do Cabrito
A 40-meter-high waterfall located near Ribeira Grande. A metal catwalk allows visitors to walk above the local hydroelectric power plant to reach the base of the falls.
Ribeira Quente's Waterfall
A waterfall located between two tunnels on the road to Ribeira Quente. It is unique for its thermal characteristics, as the water originates from volcanic springs further inland.
Salto do Prego
A secluded waterfall in Faial da Terra accessible via a hiking trail. The site features a cold-water pool at the base of the falls surrounded by dense forest.
Poço Azul
A small natural pool in Achadinha known for its crystal-clear blue water. It is reached via a hiking trail through a forested valley.
