This selection includes the UNESCO-listed Colonies of Benevolence at Veenhuizen and Frederiksoord, established in the 19th century to combat poverty. Ancient Megalithic Tombs

Drenthe is home to 52 surviving hunebedden, megalithic portal tombs constructed by the Funnelbeaker culture between 3400 and 2850 BC. These structures consist of massive granite erratic boulders deposited during the Saale glaciation. Originally covered by earthen mounds, these Neolithic monuments served as collective burial sites. This selection includes the largest specimen at Borger and various well-preserved examples scattered across the heathlands and forests of the Hondsrug region.
