Ierapetra Essentials

Ierapetra, Europe's southernmost town, blends ancient history with dramatic natural landscapes. The town features the 13th-century Venetian Kales Fortress and the house where Napoleon allegedly stayed in 1798. Nearby, the archaeological sites of Gournia and the Minoan Villa of Makry-Gialos offer glimpses into Bronze Age civilization. Nature enthusiasts can explore the narrow passages of Ha and Sarakina Gorges, visit the Mylonas waterfall, or reach the turquoise waters of Belegrina beach on Chrissi Island. The 13th-century Kapsa's Monastery and Byzantine fortifications complete this historical cross-section of southeastern Crete.
