Leiria District Essentials

Leiria District preserves some of Portugal’s most significant historical and natural landmarks. The region is defined by the UNESCO-listed Gothic monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça and the medieval walled town of Óbidos. Along the coast, Nazaré features the world’s largest surfable waves at Praia do Norte and traditional fishing heritage. Inland, the landscape shifts to the limestone massifs of Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, home to extensive cave systems and the Bacalhôa Buddha Eden garden.
