Best of Marseille

This walk covers the essential sights of Marseille, France's oldest city and its great Mediterranean port. You begin at the hilltop basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, reached by bus 60 from the Vieux-Port, and walk downhill to the old harbour. From there you pass the opera and the town hall on your way to the fortified harbour mouth, then climb into the old Panier quarter, passing the cathedral of La Major, and finish at the Vieille Charité. Expect about two hours on foot, mostly flat, with one steep descent at the start.
