Argeș Unmissables

Argeș County is defined by the Southern Carpathians and its medieval heritage. The Transfăgărășan highway winds through the Făgăraș Mountains, reaching the glacial Bâlea Lake at 2,034 meters. Historical landmarks include the 14th-century Poenari Castle, a fortress expanded by Vlad the Impaler, and the Curtea de Argeș Monastery, which serves as the necropolis for the Romanian royal family. Bâlea Lake

Bâlea Lake is a glacier lake situated in the Făgăraș Mountains at 2034 meters altitude. It is known for its natural beauty and tourist attractions such as the annually constructed ice hotel. The lake is accessible by car during summer via the Transfăgărășan road and by cable car during other seasons.
