Argeș Unmissables

Argeș County is defined by the Southern Carpathians and its medieval heritage. The Transfăgărășan highway winds through the Făgăraș Mountains, reaching the glacial Bâlea Lake at 2,034 meters. Historical landmarks include the 14th-century Poenari Castle, a fortress expanded by Vlad the Impaler, and the Curtea de Argeș Monastery, which serves as the necropolis for the Romanian royal family. The region also features technical feats like the 166-meter-high Vidraru Dam and the Mateiaș Mausoleum, dedicated to World War I soldiers.

Bâlea Lake
