Geschiedenis
Telč's history dates back to the 13th century. It began as a royal water fortress, strategically located at the crossroads of trade routes. The town and its original Gothic castle were rebuilt in the 16th century after a series of devastating fires.
This major transformation was led by Zachariáš of Hradec. He converted the Gothic stronghold into the Renaissance chateau, Zámek Telč. He also oversaw the rebuilding of the town square, Historické centrum Telče, with its distinctive arcaded houses and gables. This unified Renaissance appearance is why Historické centrum Telč is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
