Damme

Historic Windmills

The region around Damme features a collection of historic windmills that reflect the agricultural heritage of West Flanders. These structures include 19th-century stone mountain mills and belt mills situated along the Damse Vaart canal and within the polder villages of Hoeke, Lapscheure, and Moerkerke. While some remain fully restored, others stand as architectural remnants of traditional Flemish engineering used for grinding grain.

Schellemolen

A white-painted brick mountain mill built in 1867 on the banks of the Damse Vaart. It replaced a wooden predecessor and remains a functional landmark of the Damme landscape.

Hoekemolen

A stone tower mill dating from 1840, located in the village of Hoeke. This polder mill underwent significant restoration in the 1970s to preserve its traditional Flemish architecture.

Dorpsmolen

Historic mill site located in the village of Lapscheure.

Oude Molen

Former mill location in Lapscheure, representing the traditional milling history of the rural Damme region.

Lievensmolen

A brick belt mill in Moerkerke, constructed in 1894 for grain milling. It stands as a preserved example of late 19th-century industrial architecture.

Allekerkemolen

Also known as the Balsmolen, this brick belt mill in Moerkerke dates to 1873. It was built to replace an earlier wooden structure.
