Nasca's Absolute Essentials

Explore the archaeological legacy of the Nasca civilization across the arid southern Peruvian coast. This selection features the UNESCO-listed Nasca Lines, best viewed from the Maria Reiche observation tower, and the complex hydraulic engineering of the Cantalloc and Ocongalla aqueducts. The collection also includes the Chauchilla Cemetery, where pre-Inca mummies remain preserved in their original tombs, and the local planetarium, which explores the astronomical theories and mathematical precision behind the desert's massive geoglyphs.

Nasca Highlights

Nasca is defined by its enigmatic desert geoglyphs, including the iconic Hummingbird and Spider figures etched into the arid plains. Beyond the lines, the region features the massive adobe ceremonial center of Cahuachi and the Cantalloc Aqueducts, a sophisticated pre-Columbian hydraulic system still in use. The Chauchilla Cemetery preserves mummified remains in open tombs, while the Antonini Didactic Museum displays archaeological finds from the Cahuachi excavations, providing historical context for the Nazca and Inca civilizations.

Hidden Gems

Beyond the aerial flights, Nasca’s landscape features the Inca administrative center of Los Paredones, built with sun-dried adobe bricks and stone. The Torre María Reiche offers a ground-level perspective of the Hand and Tree geoglyphs from a 12-meter metal platform. Further south in the Marcona district, coastal viewpoints like Mirador de la Ninfa overlook the Pacific, while local green spaces such as Parque San Juan Bautista and Parque Justo Pastor serve as community gathering points.
