Granada Essentials

Granada, founded in 1524, showcases Spanish colonial architecture centered around the Parque Central. Granada Cathedral

Iglesia de La Merced

Originally built in 1534 and rebuilt in the 18th century, this church features a Baroque facade. The bell tower provides panoramic views of the city and Mombacho Volcano.

Convento de San Francisco

Established in 1529, this is one of Central America’s oldest churches. The onsite museum displays a collection of pre-Columbian basalt statues found on Zapatera Island.

Volcan Mombacho

A dormant volcano reaching 1,344 meters, covered in cloud forest. It features several hiking trails, endemic flora and fauna, and views over Lake Nicaragua and Granada.

Las Isletas

An archipelago of 365 small islands in Lake Nicaragua, formed by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. The islands host local communities, diverse birdlife, and a Spanish fortress.

Fortaleza La Polvora

A Spanish fortress built in 1748 to store gunpowder and defend the city against pirate attacks. The structure includes thick adobe walls and several watchtowers accessible to visitors.

Muelle de Granada

A historic pier extending into Lake Nicaragua. It serves as a primary departure point for ferry services and private boat tours to Las Isletas.

Casa de los Tres Mundos

An international cultural center housed in a restored colonial mansion. It hosts art galleries, music schools, and workshops dedicated to the preservation of Nicaraguan heritage.
