Pelješac Historical Sites

The Pelješac peninsula features one of the Mediterranean's most significant defensive systems, centered around the 14th-century fortifications connecting Ston and Mali Ston. This collection highlights key components of the 5.5-kilometer wall network, including strategic hilltop fortresses like Pozvizd and specialized defensive towers like Minčeta and Stoviš. Built by the Republic of Ragusa to protect lucrative salt pans, these stone structures represent centuries of military engineering, complemented by modern commemorative monuments from the mid-20th century.
