This collection features significant sites across Rwanda dedicated to the remembrance of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. From the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, which details the military intervention that ended the killings, to the Bisesero memorial honoring local resistance, these locations provide historical context and evidence. The sites serve as educational centers and solemn burial grounds, preserving the memory of victims while documenting Rwanda’s path toward reconciliation and national unity.

Campaign Against Genocide Museum

Housed in the Parliamentary building, this museum documents the military campaign by the Rwanda Patriotic Front to stop the 1994 genocide. It features detailed exhibits on the rescue of civilians and the three-month struggle to restore peace.

Gatwaro Genocide Memorial

Located in Karongi, this memorial marks the site of the Gatwaro Stadium massacre. It commemorates the thousands of people who sought refuge in the stadium in April 1994 before being targeted by local militia and government forces.

Bisesero Genocide Memorial

Known as the Hill of Resistance, this memorial honors the Tutsi who defended themselves against attackers using traditional weapons. The site features nine buildings symbolizing the nine former communes of the Kibuye region.

Murambi genocide memorial

Located at a former technical school, this memorial serves as a stark testament to the 1994 atrocities. It preserves the remains of victims and provides a detailed museum exhibit on the history of ethnic division in Rwanda.

Nyanza Genocide Memorial

Also known as the ETO Kicukiro memorial, this site commemorates the thousands who were killed after UN peacekeepers withdrew from the location. It includes mass graves and a garden of reflection for those abandoned during the conflict.

Genocide-Memorial Kibuye

Situated near the shores of Lake Kivu, this memorial is located at the site of a former church where thousands were killed. The grounds include a mass grave and a commemorative wall listing the names of local victims.
