Historic Churches & Stave Churches

The Sognefjord region contains some of Norway's most significant religious architecture, spanning from the 12th-century Romanesque stone masonry of Hove Church to the intricate timber craftsmanship of the Hopperstad and Kaupanger stave churches. Kaupanger stavkyrkje

Built around 1140, this is the largest stave church in the Sogn region. It features 22 staves and has remained in continuous use as a parish church for over 800 years.

A Romanesque stone church dating back to approximately 1170. It is one of the oldest stone structures in Norway and originally served as a private chapel for a local chieftain.

Tønjum kyrkje
