Best Beaches & Bays
The Gower Peninsula, the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, features a diverse coastline ranging from the three-mile expanse of Rhossili Bay to the iconic limestone peaks of Three Cliffs Bay. These locations offer a mix of expansive sandy shores, secluded pebble coves, and dramatic cliffs. Notable landmarks include the 18th-century Mumbles Lighthouse, the shipwreck of the Helvetia, and the tidal island of Worm’s Head, all accessible via the Wales Coast Path.
Three Cliffs Bay
Defined by three limestone peaks and the meandering Pennard Pill stream. The bay is overlooked by the 12th-century ruins of Pennard Castle and features extensive sand dunes and salt marshes.
Oxwich Bay
A two-mile stretch of sand backed by the Oxwich National Nature Reserve. The area includes diverse habitats such as dunes, salt marshes, and woodland, with the Tudor-era Oxwich Castle nearby.
Rhossili Bay Beach
Three miles of sandy shoreline featuring the Worm’s Head tidal island at its southern end. The beach contains the visible remains of the Helvetia shipwreck, which ran aground in 1887.
Caswell Bay
A sandy beach known for its rock pools and surf. It features accessible facilities, including a seasonal lifeguard service and a beach cafe, located a short distance from Mumbles.
Tor Bay
A sheltered, sandy cove separated from Oxwich Bay by a limestone headland. It is accessible via a walk across the cliffs and offers views of the Great Tor rock formation.
Bracelet Bay
A rocky bay on the edge of Mumbles providing views of the 1794 Mumbles Lighthouse. The shoreline features numerous rock pools and limestone formations exposed at low tide.
Blue Pool Bay
Blue Pool Bay is a small cove near the village of Llangennith in Gower, Wales.
Nicholaston Beach
A secluded sandy beach backed by Nicholaston Burrows and woodland. This eastern section of the Oxwich Bay curve is reached via footpaths through dunes and is known for its diverse flora.
Pwlldu Bay
A secluded pebble beach surrounded by high limestone cliffs. Accessible only via coastal footpaths, the bay was historically a site for limestone quarrying and smuggling.
