Mountain Huts & Campsites

This collection features essential high-altitude refuges and lakeside campsites within Nahuel Huapi National Park. It includes historic stone huts like Refugio Emilio Frey and modern facilities like Refugio Agostino Rocca. These sites provide strategic base camps for trekking routes such as the Paso de las Nubes and climbs on Mount Tronador. Campsites are situated along the Seven Lakes Road and Lake Mascardi, offering access to glacial rivers and protected beaches for multi-day wilderness expeditions in the Patagonian Andes.

Refugio Emilio Frey

Granite stone hut located at the base of Aguja Frey, next to Tonček Lagoon. It serves as a primary hub for rock climbers and hikers on the Cerro Catedral circuit.

Refugio Agostino Rocca

Modern refuge situated at 1,432 meters on the Paso de las Nubes trail. It offers views of the Frías Glacier and the Tronador peaks.

Refugio Otto Meiling

High-altitude mountain hut located at 1,900 meters on Mount Tronador, positioned between the Castaño Overa and Alerce glaciers.

Refugio Viejo del Tronador

Historic wooden shelter located on the slopes of Mount Tronador, providing a traditional mountaineering base near the Castaño Overa glacier.

Refugio San Martín / Refugio Jakob

Rebuilt in 2018, this refuge sits on the shores of Laguna Jakob. It is a key stop on the traverse between Refugio Frey and Laguna Negra.

Refugio Italia Manfredo Segre

Stone hut located at 1,650 meters next to the dark waters of Laguna Negra. It is accessible via a trail starting from Colonia Suiza.

Refugio Vivac Slovenia

High-altitude bivouac shelter located on the upper slopes of Mount Tronador, primarily used by mountaineers attempting the peak's summit.
