Cultural Heritage

New Caledonia’s history is preserved through sites spanning the colonial era, the penal colony period, and the World Wars. This collection includes the Site Historique de l'Île Nou, a former 19th-century penal colony, and the Ecomusee du cafe, which documents the region’s agricultural heritage. War memorials, such as the New Zealand War Cemetery and the Plaine des Gaiacs memorial, honor the territory's strategic role in the Pacific theater and commemorate the Paris Commune deportees of 1871.
