Religious Sites

Arraial do Cabo’s religious heritage features a mix of historic Portuguese colonial architecture and unique natural shrines. The 16th-century Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios marks one of Brazil’s earliest Christian sites, while the Fenda de Nossa Senhora offers a distinct maritime place of worship nestled within a coastal rock formation. The list also includes several contemporary evangelical and Baptist churches that reflect the modern spiritual life of the local community.

Fenda de Nossa Senhora

A 5-meter-wide natural rock fissure in the cliffs of Ilha do Farol, accessible only by boat. It houses a statue of the Virgin Mary, commemorating a 1721 discovery by local fishermen.

Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios

Built in 1506, this is one of the oldest churches in Brazil. It features simple colonial architecture and was the site of the country's first indoor mass.
