This collection spans over a millennium of defensive and architectural history in Central Macedonia. It features the UNESCO-listed Byzantine walls of Thessaloniki, the 15th-century Ottoman White Tower, and the strategic Crusader-built Platamonas Castle overlooking the Aegean. The list also includes the hilltop ruins of Rentina Castle, which once guarded the Via Egnatia, and the 76-meter OTE Tower, a modern landmark representing the region's contemporary telecommunications infrastructure.

Byzantine Castle of Rentina

Ruins of a strategic Byzantine fortress situated on a hilltop overlooking the Rentina Gorge. The site features remains of defensive walls, a cistern, and a 10th-century church, once guarding the vital passage between Lake Volvi and the Strymonic Gulf along the Via Egnatia.
