Dambulla's Essential Wonders

Dambulla centers on two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the 5th-century rock fortress of Sigiriya and the Golden Temple cave complex. Sigiriya features ancient frescoes, a mirror wall, and water gardens surrounding a massive granite monolith. Nearby, the Dambulla Cave Temple contains five separate caverns housing over 150 Buddhist statues and extensive ceiling murals dating back to the 1st century BCE. For panoramic views of the Sigiriya citadel, the adjacent Pidurangala Rock offers a steep ascent past an ancient monastery and a large reclining Buddha statue.
