Must-See Ercolano
Ercolano offers a unique glimpse into Roman life and Bourbon grandeur. The archaeological site of Herculaneum features multi-story Roman houses preserved by volcanic mud, while the nearby Villa of the Papyri once housed an extensive philosophical library. The 18th-century Royal Palace of Portici showcases the region's royal heritage. Visitors can also explore the ancient Roman theater, still partially buried underground, and use high-tech virtual reconstructions at the MAV (Virtual Archaeological Museum) to visualize the city before the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
Teatro romano di Ercolano
An ancient Roman theater discovered in 1710. Located approximately 25 meters below current street level, it is accessible via tunnels and retains portions of its original marble decoration and architectural structure.
