Fiordland Peaks

Fiordland National Park's dramatic landscape is defined by these prominent summits, ranging from the iconic 1,692-meter Mitre Peak rising directly from Milford Sound to the alpine wetlands of Key Summit. The list includes Mount Grono, the highest point on Secretary Island, and The Hump, which overlooks the Southern Ocean along the Hump Ridge Track. These peaks represent the region’s diverse geological history, featuring glacially carved valleys and panoramic views of the Darran and Humboldt Mountains.

Key Summit

Located at the junction of the Routeburn Track, this 919-meter sub-alpine peak features a glacial cirque and alpine tarns. It provides panoramic views of the Hollyford, Eglinton, and Upper Hollyford Valleys.

Mitre Peak

Rising 1,692 meters above the dark waters of Milford Sound, this iconic mountain is characterized by its distinct five-peaked summit. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in New Zealand due to its sheer vertical rise from the sea.

Mount Grono

Mount Grono, previously spelled Mount Groznoz, is a 1,196-metre peak on Secretary Island, part of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park.

The Hump

A 1,064-meter peak situated along the Hump Ridge Track. It offers views across Te Waewae Bay, the Southern Ocean, and Stewart Island, marking the southern edge of Fiordland National Park.

Mount Nantes

A mountain peak situated in the rugged interior of Fiordland National Park, located to the south of Doubtful Sound.
