Fiordland Peaks
Fiordland National Park's landscape is defined by its glaciated peaks, ranging from the iconic Mitre Peak on Milford Sound to the alpine wetlands of Key Summit. This selection covers diverse terrain, including the Murchison Mountains—a critical sanctuary for the flightless takahē—and the coastal ranges of the southern sounds like Dusky and Preservation Inlets. These granite and gneiss summits offer geological insights into New Zealand's tectonic history and provide vantage points over the Tasman Sea and deep glacial carved valleys.
A Key Summit
A detour on the Routeburn Track, this summit features a nature walk through alpine wetlands and tarns. It provides panoramic views of the Hollyford, Eglinton, and Greenstone valleys.
B Mitre Peak
Rising 1,692 meters directly from Milford Sound, this iconic landmark consists of five closely grouped peaks. Its distinctive shape resembles a bishop's mitre.
Mount Grono
Mount Grono, previously spelled Mount Groznoz, is a 1,196-metre peak on Secretary Island, part of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park.
Te Iwi o Pātea / Command Peak
Located within the Murchison Mountains, this peak overlooks Caswell Sound and is part of a restricted area dedicated to the conservation of the endangered takahē.
Te Horo / Treble Mountain
A coastal peak situated near the entrance of Preservation Inlet in the remote southwestern corner of Fiordland National Park.
Kā Pukehore / Bald Peaks
A series of summits located in the southern region of Fiordland, characterized by their exposed, rocky terrain above the bush line.
The Hump

Mount Edgecumbe
A significant peak overlooking Dusky Sound, named during Captain Cook's second voyage in 1773.
Mount Patanga
Situated in the Murchison Mountains, this peak sits within a specially protected area for native bird species between Lake Te Anau and the Tasman Sea.
Mount Sparrman
Located near Dusky Sound, this peak was named after Anders Sparrman, a Swedish naturalist who accompanied James Cook on his second expedition.
Mount Bradshaw
A peak positioned in the rugged terrain between Breaksea Sound and Dusky Sound in southern Fiordland.
Mount Bates
