Guyana Essentials

Guyana’s landscape is defined by the massive Kaieteur Falls, the world’s largest single-drop waterfall, and the biodiversity of the Rupununi Savannah and Iwokrama rainforest. In Georgetown, colonial-era architecture stands out through the Victorian-era Stabroek Market and St. George’s Cathedral, one of the tallest wooden structures globally. Kaieteur Falls

Kaieteur Falls is the world's largest single drop waterfall by the volume of water flowing over it.

Iwokrama Canopy Walkway

Elevated bridge system and structure in the rainforest designed for observing birdlife and canopy-dwelling species from the tree-tops. The walkway provides views of the surrounding forest from the canopy level.

Shell Beach Protected Area

Coastal nature reserve spanning 123,055 hectares of mangrove forests, wetlands, and beaches. The area serves as a critical nesting ground for four endangered species of marine turtles.

Stabroek Market

Largest market hall housed in a historic Victorian-era iron and steel structure with a prominent clock tower. It serves as a central hub for commerce and a major transportation point for taxis, minibuses, and ferries.

St. George's Cathedral

Anglican cathedral and national monument that stands 43.5 meters tall as one of the world's tallest freestanding wooden structures. Completed in 1894, it features a distinct Gothic Revival architectural style.

Umana Yana

Conical palm-thatched hut and national monument representing traditional indigenous Wai-Wai architecture. Originally built in 1972, the structure serves as a venue for exhibitions and conferences.

Demerara Harbour Bridge

Historic floating pontoon bridge featuring retractable spans and a pedestrian walkway. Once the longest bridge of its type in the world, the structure was commissioned in 1978 and served as a vital regional link for over 47 years.

Fort Zeelandia

Built by the Dutch West India Company in 1744, this brick fortification stands on Fort Island in the Essequibo River. The site includes the ruins of the fort and the Court of Policy, representing the former administrative center of the Dutch colony of Essequibo.
