Natural Wonders of Ioannina

Ioannina’s geography is dominated by Lake Pamvotida, the largest in Epirus, and the limestone formations of the Pindus mountains. This collection features the Perama Cave, containing 19 types of stalactites, and the Paleolithic site of Kastritsa Hill. Perama

A 1.5-million-year-old limestone cave system spanning 1,100 meters. It contains 19 varieties of stalactites and stalagmites and served as a civilian air-raid shelter during World War II.

Goura waterfall

A mountain waterfall located in the Pindus range. The site is characterized by its seasonal water flow and the surrounding deciduous forest.

Plateia Rologiou Ioanninon

A central public square housing a neoclassical clock tower commissioned by Osman Pasha in 1905. The tower is a significant landmark of the city's Ottoman architectural heritage.

Perama cave hill

Known as Goritsa Hill, this limestone elevation sits above the Perama Cave. It provides views of the Ioannina basin and the Mitsikeli mountain range.

Lophos Kastritsas

An archaeological site on a hill overlooking Lake Pamvotida. It features a cave with Paleolithic remains and ruins of ancient fortifications associated with the Molossian settlement of Tekmona.
