Squares and Peaks of Pienza

This collection highlights the dual character of Pienza, the 'Ideal City' of the Renaissance. It features the urban squares commissioned by Pope Pius II, including pedestrian areas within the historic core and gateways like Piazza Martiri della Libertà. Complementing these architectural spaces are the surrounding 'poggi' or peaks, such as Poggio Oppio and Poggio San Pietro, which define the rolling clay hills and cypress-lined landscapes of the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia.
