Siwa Essentials

Siwa Oasis contains ancient archaeological sites and unique natural features built from kershef—a traditional mixture of salt and mud. The 13th-century Fort of Shali dominates the town center, while the Temple of Amun marks where Alexander the Great consulted the famous oracle. Natural highlights include the high-salinity salt pools, Cleopatra’s Bath spring, and the rock-cut tombs of the Mountain of the Dead. This remote Berber settlement preserves distinct cultural traditions, visible in its local museum and traditional architecture surrounded by thousands of date palms and olive trees.
