Spiritual Heritage Sites

Explore the architectural and spiritual history of the Valaam Archipelago and Sortavala. This collection features the Savior Transfiguration Monastery, a major center of Russian Orthodoxy on Lake Ladoga, alongside various secluded sketes like the Resurrection and John the Baptist sketes. The list includes the graves of influential abbots such as Damaskin, who shaped the monastery's 19th-century expansion. You will also find Lutheran landmarks that reflect the region's complex cultural history between Russia and Finland.
