Tangalle Unmissables
Tangalle features a diverse landscape ranging from the Hummanaya Blow Hole, the second largest of its kind globally, to the protected nesting grounds of Rekawa Beach where five species of marine turtles lay eggs. The area is characterized by secluded sandy bays like Goyambokka and the calm swimming waters of Paravi Wella. Cultural sites include several historic Buddhist temples such as Henakaduwa Viharaya and Sri Subodharamaya, which showcase traditional Sri Lankan religious architecture and serene monastic grounds.
A Turtle Watch Rekawa
A conservation site where five species of sea turtles, including Green and Leatherback, come to nest. Guided night vigils allow visitors to observe the nesting process on the beach.
Hummanaya Blow Hole
The second largest blowhole in the world, where sea water is forced through a natural rock chimney, creating a fountain that can reach heights of 25 to 30 meters.
