Veliky Novgorod Essentials

Veliky Novgorod serves as the historical cradle of Russia, preserving a dense collection of medieval architecture along the banks of the Volkhov River. The western side is dominated by the red-brick Novgorod Kremlin, housing the 11th-century St. Sophia Cathedral and the massive bronze Millennium of Russia monument. Across the pedestrian bridge lies Yaroslav’s Courtyard, a former commercial hub featuring a concentration of 12th-century churches, including St. Nicholas Cathedral and the unique Church of St. Paraskevi.
