Bethlehem Essentials

Bethlehem centers on Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity, a UNESCO World Heritage site built over the traditional birthplace of Jesus. The historic Old City features limestone architecture and the ancient Star Street pilgrimage route. Beyond the religious core, the region includes King Herod’s fortress at Herodion and the 5th-century Mar Saba monastery built into the Kidron Valley cliffs. Cultural sites like the Palestinian Heritage Center and contemporary street art by Banksy reflect the city's complex modern history and enduring traditions.

Sacred Sites

Bethlehem’s spiritual landscape is anchored by the Church of the Nativity, a 4th-century basilica marking the traditional birthplace of Jesus. Nearby, the Chapel of the Milk Grotto features a unique white grotto associated with the Holy Family’s flight to Egypt. The surrounding Judean desert houses significant monastic sites, including the dramatic 5th-century Mar Saba cliffside complex and the Monastery of St. Theodosius. To the north, Mar Elias Monastery provides a historical link between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, offering panoramic views of the Judean hills and Herodium.
