Skye Coastal Wonders

Skye’s coastline features the Trotternish peninsula's Kilt Rock, a 55-meter basalt cliff with the Mealt waterfall plunging into the Sound of Raasay. Neist Point marks the island's westernmost point, home to a 1909 lighthouse and dramatic sea cliffs. The Coral Beaches near Dunvegan are composed of crushed bleached maerl seaweed rather than coral, while the Quiraing offers an active landslip landscape. Coastal inlets like Loch Bracadale and the remote bay of Camasunary on the Strathaird peninsula provide sheltered waters and views of the Cuillin mountains.

Coral Beaches

These beaches are composed of crushed, sun-bleached maerl, a type of calcified seaweed, rather than actual coral. The white sediment creates a turquoise hue in the surrounding water.
