Kagoshima Essentials

Kagoshima is dominated by Sakurajima, one of the world's most active volcanoes situated across Kinko Bay. The city served as the seat of the powerful Shimazu clan, whose legacy remains at the Sengan-en garden and the ruins of Kagoshima Castle. As a gateway for Western influence, the area played a crucial role in Japan’s Meiji Restoration, history now preserved at the Reimeikan museum.
