Beaches and Coastlines

Auckland’s coastline spans the rugged black-sand surf beaches of the west, such as Piha and Muriwai, and the sheltered white-sand bays of the east and Hauraki Gulf. This selection includes the expansive dunes of Te Henga, the family-friendly waters of Mission Bay and Long Bay, and remote stretches on Great Barrier Island. Key features include the gannet colony at Muriwai, the historic maritime atmosphere of Devonport, and the protected marine environments of Tawharanui and Waiheke Island.
