Sacred Heritage
Banská Štiavnica’s religious landscape is defined by its architectural diversity, ranging from Late Gothic monuments to Baroque complexes. This collection includes the late 15th-century Church of St. Catherine, the Empire-style Evangelical Church, and the prominent Calvary on Scharffenberg Hill. The Calvary, a masterpiece of Baroque art, consists of three churches and several chapels representing the Stations of the Cross. These sites reflect the town's historical wealth and the spiritual life of its mining community, offering insights into centuries of ecclesiastical history.
Kostol svätej Kataríny
A Late Gothic church built between 1488 and 1491. It features a notable star vault and houses a 16th-century wooden sculpture of the Madonna and a valuable Late Gothic baptistery.
Evanjelický kostol
Built in the Empire style between 1794 and 1796, this church features a distinctive elliptical floor plan and a dome. It was constructed without a tower to comply with the Patent of Toleration.
