Birštonas Municipality Unmissables

Birštonas Municipality is defined by its location within the Great Meanders of the Nemunas River. This resort town features the Škėvoniai outcrop, a 33-meter-high cliff offering views of the river valley. The area is known for its Kneipp therapy gardens, mineral water springs, and the Žvėrinčius forest trails. Key historical sites include the 14th-century Vytautas Hill fort and the neo-Gothic St. Anthony of Padua Church. Ancient Lithuanian Hillforts

This collection features ancient hillforts, known as piliakalniai, situated along the scenic bends of the Nemunas River near Birštonas and Prienai. These archaeological sites, including the prominent Vytautas Hill and the twin fortifications at Norkūnai, represent a network of defensive structures dating back to the first millennium and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Lithuanian Hillforts

These five hillforts, known locally as piliakalniai, represent the medieval defensive heritage of the Birštonas region along the Nemunas river loops. Ranging from the prominent Vytautas Hill to the strategic embankments at Paverkniai and Norkūnai, these archaeological sites served as vital fortifications against Teutonic raids between the 1st and 14th centuries.
